“Our world is changing and this new approach is being launched that listens to your needs, identifies core issues and creates a plan of action that will lead our region.”

 - Chester R. Jourdan, Jr. MORPC Executive Director

Shaping our Future: The Regional Plan for Central Ohio

There are over 2 million people living in the central Ohio region. How we live tomorrow is based largely on what we do today. Planning makes the difference. That’s what we do at MORPC. This is where visions about growing our region are created, designed, discussed and embraced.

Shaping our Future is a regional plan that expands upon the goals first identified during the regional visioning exercise led by MORPC that was known as Regional Connections. It will be a refinement of those goals and extend them to include other regional issues. It will also include policies and recommended action that will promote a high quality of life for the region’s residents and strengthen the region’s economy in the global marketplace. The plan will be completed by 2012.

Shaping our Future will:
• provide collaborative approaches to regional issues
• support coordination among local jurisdictions
• advise local governments and other stakeholders on how to implement recommended policies and programs included in the final regional plan

Shaping our Future will interlace a variety of disciplines that identify strategies and programs that:
• Air Quality –reduce harmful emissions into the air
• Economic Development- attract and retain businesses and talent
• Energy Consumption – dissuade climate change and promote energy efficiency
• Food Production- support local food sources
• Land use – support and encourage sustainable development
• Neighborhood Sustainability – promote and support stable, vibrant and livable neighborhoods
• Transportation – advance a sustainable multimodal transportation system that will safely, cost effectively, and efficiently move people and goods
• Water Quality- maintain and enhance the surface and ground water resources

A six step process is underway to help us develop the plan:
